CD pick: Banded Stilts, Little Village
The Chronicle Herald
Like the vintage image of a Newfoundland outport that graces the cover of their CD Little Village, Banded Stilts’ songs make you consider taking shelter from the weather.

It’s the perfect release for this time of year, as fall foliage makes like a tree and leaves. The quintet focuses on generating warmth through its adroitly balanced acoustic palette.

The mix of guitar, violin, mandolin and accordion might not be new, but Banded Stilts make the most of it, with vocalist Steve Haley’s charismatic storytelling drawing you deeper into this comfy sonic cottage.

Banded Stilts are part of Halifax Pop Explosion tonight at the Company House with Alana Yorke, Kim Harris and Woodpigeon. Show time is 8 p.m. They also venture up to Sydney for Nova Scotia Music Week, with a showcase at Governor’s Pub on Nov. 9.
